Final Post

October 13th, 2007 by ror9000 in Uncategorized · No Comments

Dear all,

In the beginning of this, I did not understand the meaning and the usefulness of this “blogging”.
It worked out very good and I learned a lot! Also, it helped me with writing my thesis. It was useful because now I wrote a chapter every week, instead of everything in the last week. I think we had a group with good people. The comment helped me a lot and the blogs of other people made me start thinking of different topics.
I am going to focus on my writing style now, so that a lay-person understands it. I have a lot of work to do but I think I will succeed.
I also want to thank you all, and wish you good luck with writing your thesis!

Final CL

October 13th, 2007 by ynn200 in Uncategorized · No Comments

Hi all,

A lot is already written about the final CL.
I think for those of you who were not there during the final CL the answers to our questions are pretty clear.

There is however one important thing for you what is not mentioned al ready.
Mister Rietdijk told us that we should use footnotes in our paper to refer to articles. Thus not by mentioning author and year in brackets. In the footnote we should only mention author and year. The full reference (author, title, journal etcetera) should than finally be mentioned in the reference list.
The purpose of using footnotes is that it will make your paper more easy to read for lay-persons.

I hope this information is useful for you!

Kind regards,

Final Post

October 12th, 2007 by dgm200 in Uncategorized · No Comments

I guess this will be my final post. From now on my total focus will be on the final paper. Although I sometimes found the challenges very time consuming, in the end I think most were helpful for our quest. I think at least it was a very creative course and one nothing the same as every course I did.

I’m feeling very confident about my chances of succeeding this course. Because of the weekly blogging I already did a lot of work for the final paper, in stead of the usual hard work the last few days to finish the case. I think today’s (last) confrontation lecture made very clear what is expected from us. Creativity, clear language, academic literature and integration of the challanges are the most important aspects.

I want to thank everybody for their comments and wish everybody good luck in finishing their final paper.

 Greetings, Diederik

The end is ahead of us…

October 11th, 2007 by msn990 in Other · 4 Comments

Mmm…I know, the title sounds a bit dramatic :) But is is true, it is almost done, the final run of this long marathon. But still, there is enough work to do before we can relax and start a new period.

Today we had (my quest-group) our last confrontation lecture in which we discussed our developed questions. The first question had to to with “how to write your final essay in a “laymans” language”. Mr. Rietdijk explained to us that in order to answer this crucial question, we need to have clear vision of what a “layman” is. We concluded that it is someone who has a certain level of English (Havo) and has no background whatsoever in management studies.

In our seccond question we discussed the criteria that are being stated by the teachers. Previous post writers have described this well enough.

The third question dealt with the extent to which the student can be creative writing the final essay. Mr. Rietdijk explained that there are no limits to this issue.

The final question, which in my view is the most important one, was: “what is the purpose of this final essay?” Mr. Rietdijk said that we have to explain what our question is, why one should read it and the added value will be of this final paper for the reader.

One thing is for sure, todays’ CL added value.

 Kind regards,

Final Confrontation lecture

October 11th, 2007 by ror9000 in Uncategorized · 3 Comments

Today we had our final confrontation lecture. The main topic was the writing style, in a way that a lay-person would understand. I think this is going to be a hard job! The conclusion was, for the two persons who where not there, that it has to be like the news. Not the news on SBS6, but for example the news on RTL.

Ways to write like that were:
- Explanation of words (maybe it is an idea to make a kind of dictionary in de appendix?)
- Examples
- Use different (”jip en janneke”) words
- Summarize each chapter
- Pictures (see link below)

In my search for comparisons from alliances I only found the marriage: “Alliances are very dynamic in nature, just like marriages, and over a lifetime can be affected by many internal and external factors.” Did you found any other comparisons?

Challenge nr. 4

October 10th, 2007 by msn990 in Other · No Comments

So here we are, what a challenge! I must admit I had fun and liked the way we were able to express our creative spirit.

Soon there will be a link to see my video, probably tomorrow. I have made the deadline, just need to make it smaller in order to upload it. Tonight or tomorrow it will be online.

Hope you’ll like it.

Kind regards,

Here my URL link for the challenge:

http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=1eSNiuJygZU

On youtude it says that the film duration is 4 minutes and 59 seconds. My computer (windows movie maker) says that the duration is 5 minutes. Is this a problem?
